Brushed Metal gets a reality check at Daring Fireball

daringfireballstar.gif
Daring Fireball has a hysterical "conversation" between Brushed Metal and his agent about the new look of iTunes. I don't want to spoil anything for you, but it's a really good read. Be sure to take a look at the new iTunes before you read it though, otherwise it probably won't make a lot of sense to you. Read The iTunes 5 Announcement From the Perspective of an Anthropomorphized Brushed Metal User Interface Theme.

Deathmatch: iPod versus toilet

BWshuffle.jpg
I hadn't realized how much of a problem this had become, I guess it's the iPod problem no one likes to talk about, but MethodShop.com has a whole article, "iPod Toilet Trap," devoted to iPod misshaps involving toilets. Read through the comments and you'd think it's nearing epidemic proportions. What are you people doing?!

iPod your baby, he’ll hate you FOREVER!

ipodmybaby.jpg
Now, I love my iPod and I love my young son, but I can't think of a more efficient way to make them both hate me than to dress them up as each other. It might take about 15 years for your child to uncover that photo you took of him in his little Click Wheel onesie, what with that huge grin on your face, and everyone pointing at him and laughing at him - AT HIM!!! Imagine his understandable shame and disappointment when he realizes that you dressed him up as a piece of consumer electronics! And it wasn't even Halloween! Comes in 3 colors and sells for $16 at iPodMyBaby.com, shame on you.

Amy Greer, Lafayette’s luckiest iTunes user

amygreerituneswinner.jpg
The Lafayette, Indiana Journal and Courier has a short article about their lucky citizen Amy Greer who won the recent iTunes 500 millionth song contest. Amy, who is 18 years old and a fan of country music, won the contest by downloading the song "Mississippi Girl" by Faith Hill (hubba, hubba).

But this is my favorite part of the story, Amy doesn't even own an iPod. I mean, she does now - 10 of them to be exact - but I think it's just great that someone like Amy won that contest. Good on ya', as they say in Australia.

Visit this page at the Apple web site for a list of all of the winners and the songs they downloaded.

Fake iPod video

fakevideoipod.jpg

This is not real. But since I'm trying hard to warm up to this iPod video idea, I thought I'd post it. Plus, the graphic is well done and the design actually has some merits to it. (They shouldn't have capitalized the word video in the title bar though. Everyone knows the iPod video has a lower case "v".)

Again with the video iPod: My revelation

video iPod wearable video idea
I've mentioned it a couple times before, but I'll briefly restate my opinion again: Video iPod? I don't get it. What's the big deal? Watch a film on a 2 inch screen? Why? That would suck.

But something mentioned in that editorial by Robert X. Cringely that I posted about on Friday got me thinking. A wearable video display... now that is an idea. Yes, they're weird, and up to now it's a technology that makes people think Star Trek more than iPod. But, this is what Apple does best - take an existing technology and make it better, make it useful to us, help us assimilate it into our daily lives. If any company could take the wearable video display mainstream, it would be Apple.

So this is what might finally sell me on this concept: A video iPod that includes an Apple-branded (white, of course) wearable video display. People already create their own little reality bubble when rocking out to music, the wearable video device would just be an extension of that same principle. However, it changes the nature of using the iPod from something that is a complimentary experience (listening to music while doing something else) to an immersive experience (watching a film captures your complete attention), so this iPod would be a new and different sort of device in my mind. But iPod + video seems to get a lot of people all aflutter, so maybe there is something to this idea...

Willy Wonka loves his iPod too

I just wanted to run this picture today in celebration of the opening of the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp film Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. I've been a long time fan of Tim Burton, Danny Elfman, and Johnny Depp. In fact, if they ever make a film of my life, I'd want Johnny Depp to play me. I'm cool like that, yeah.

iPod Anonymous has a great spoof photo album of iPod "product placements" in the new Willy Wonka film. Really well done.
