iPoditude Review: Kawali Mineon corduroy pouch for iPod mini

I thought that somehow when I saw the case for myself, held it in my hand, carried it around with me, that I would figure out what the name "Mineon" meant. After a week I still had no clue. I finally broke down and asked Kiwali and they told me that Mineon is a combination of the words "mini" and "neon" and that it's designed to communicate that their case for the iPod mini comes in bright colors like the iPod itself. I say forget about colors - it comes in corduroy, man.

Kiwali Mineon comfortable corduroy iPod cases

kiwalimineon.jpg
I'm a fan of iPod cases made from natural materials. I like the juxtaposition of the smooth, synthetic shape of the iPod next to the textured, coolness of something derived from nature. Kiwali makes a case for iPod mini that they call the Mineon. Made from corduroy, it's a flap style case that features a magnetic closure, a cut out for headphone access, and a D-ring and belt loop on the back. Available in blue, pink, tan, black, or green, each case comes with a carabiner in your choice of five colors and sells for $15. [LINK]

PS. I didn't know that the word corduroy meant "cloth of the king" in French.

iKitty by Speck Products: rubber cats are good cats

speckikitty.jpg
I like this iKitty if only for the fact that he looks like he'd be low maintenance. iKitty doesn't look like he'd wake you up at 6:15 every morning because he wants to go outside and kill mice to leave on your front door step (where the blood-soaked door mat used to be located that you had to throw away). iKitty doesn't look like he would shit in a box inside of your house on purpose. iKitty doesn't look like he'd require expensive specialty food that only one vet in town sells and that cost two thousand dollars to diagnose his rare and suspicious-sounding affliction (is that really an illness?!).

Speck Products, inventor of the playful iGuy, has announced the iKitty toy/iPod case. This new case shares much of the details with the iGuy - a bottom flap that folds open, a bendable and poseable tail (instead of arms), and an included screen protector. They'll be versions for both regular iPod and iPod mini and the little puss sells for $35, which is, believe you me, a bargain when it comes to cats.

The GripSkin iPod case from SpeckProducts

speckgripskin.jpg
I think I've got a set of screwdrivers at home with handles molded like the edges of the new GripSkin iPod case from Speck Products. "Feels great and grippy" is what the company claims and I'd have to agree since those rubber ribs are pretty cool. Besides adding some interesting curving visual lines to the sides of the iPod, the molded ribs provide shock protection for the iPod. Available for both regular iPod and iPod mini, the GripSkin includes a screen protector, a removable belt clip, and runs $20.

Tunewear announces the Prie Ambassador for iPod(s)

TunewearAmbassador.jpg
The new Prie Ambassador from Tunewear is designed to be a stylish and versatile case for your iPod. Use the removable hook or attach the belt clip to the back of the case so you can lug it around town. It's made from supple nappa leather and lined with a soft felt so it treats your iPod right. Clear vinyl windows on the front protect the display and Click Wheel, and in a unique design twist there is a clear window on the back so you can view your custom engraving which is oh-so-witty that it makes you smile with giddy self-fulfillment every time you read it.

Tunewear will make three color choices available: black with red stitching, black with white stitching, and all white. Available in October, the $50 Prie Ambassador will be available for iPod nano, iPod 4G (all models including iPod photo), and iPod mini.
